The Arts Council of the Brazos Valley is a dynamic organization serving the arts and cultural needs of a large five county area in central Texas. The P. David Romei Arts Center houses the Texas Gallery that exhibits and sells works by Texas artists. The Arts Council is also responsible for the public art sculptures located throughout the Bryan - College Station community.

As the oldest county-owned junior college in Texas, Blinn College is entering their 122nd year providing education services in south central Texas. They currently rank 10th in size among the 50 college districts in the state. Blinn College was origionally founded in Brenhamin 1883, and has had a presence in Bryan-College Station since 1970. The Bonfire Memorial is dedicated to the 12 Aggies who lost their lives in the tragic collapse of the 1999 Bonfire. It celebrates the tradition and history of Texas A&M and is comprised of the Tradition Plaza, Spirit Wall and History Walk.

Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History

The museum's principal function is to increase public awaremenss of animals, plants, minerals and human activity in the Brazos Valley today and in ages past. The museum includes a gallery with exhibits of fossils, sculptures, antique farming and survey equipment and many other artifacts. The museum also holds a discovery room with more than fifteen varieties of live animals, an active glass-front beehive, dozens of taxidermy mounts, educational resources and several exhibits.

Built in 1903 with funds from the Carnegie Foundation, this library is the oldest existing Carnegie Library in Texas. The library features a state-of-the-art history lab, historical documents and periodicals, rare books, portraits, photographs and memorabilia relating to the ballet career of Ana Ludmila Gee. The second floor of the center houses an extensive genealogical collection. The grounds boast a xeriscape garden featuring jasmine ground cover, daylilies, lavender, antique roses, crepe myrtles and other native plants.

The Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley is a hands-on, interactive and educational museum. Kids learn through play with hands-on activities. Some exhibits include: the Dramatic Play area for exploration of the world of theater, the Valley Grocery for exploration of the world of commerce, the Health and Fitness exhibit for focus on medicine and nutrition, the Town News area for future broadcast reporters, writers and DJs and the Volkswagon Beetle for expression through painting.

In addition to housing Texas A&M University's rare books, special collections and archives, Cushing Memorial Library and Archives presents 4-6 exhibits for visitors each year. Recent exhibits, drawn from the research collections, have explored such topics as the LEwis & Clark Expedition, Walt Whitman and the evolution of Leaves of Grass, the La Lowman printing arts collection and Africa-Americans at Texas A&M. Paintings and other works from Cushing's extensive art collections, in addition to rare books and other historic materials are always on display.

Historic Downtown Bryan
The city of Bryan is in the process of revitalizing its Historic Downtown. This revitalization is allowing people to experience the shops, restaurants and businesses that are working together to restore Downtown Bryan to the thriving hub it once was. A great place to go antiquing, shop for unique items, view, tour and appreciate the historic homes and buildings as well as the mouth-watering restaurants.

The Stark Galleries host about 14 traveling exhibitions each year. Visitors will see exhibits ranging from the traditional fine arts and crafts to anthropology, archaeology, history and science. One can also explore some of the highlights of Texas A&M University's permanent collection, which includes works by Texas artists such as E.M. "Buck" Schiwetz, John Biggers, H.O. Kelly, Julian Onderdonk and Dawson Dawson-Watson.

Lake Bryan provides a variety of recreational opportunities on 275 acres of land adjoining the lake to entice public enjoyment and safety. Many open areas allow for outdoor entertainment to meet everyone's needs. Swimming is allowed in the sandy beach area, sand volleyball, boating, camping, fishing, picnicing, hiking and biking. A mountain bike trail circles the lake for a strenuous 16 miles.

As the home of the Bill ('35) & Irma Runyon Art Collections, the galleries house one of the world's most extraordinary collections of English Cameo Glass, as well as 1,100 American and English glass objects and 66 American paintings including important works by Mary Cassatt, Frederick Remington and Charles M. Russell. The glass collections include the mastery of Louis Comfort Tiffany, Steuben Glass Works, Mount Washington Glass Company, New England Glass Company and long-term loans of Galle and rich cut glass.

Northgate Entertainment District
What started as a small commercial area to service the local college is now a popular eclectic entertainment and specialty district. Located on University Drive adjacent to the Texas A&M campus, you will find more than just the Dixie Chicken. With night life from trendy to country and cuisine for any palate - nouveau, Chinese, fresh Mex, steaks, suchi and burgers. Visit the new Northgate Entertainment District - one that plays host to concerts and special events throughout the year. Convenience parking serves both Northgate Entertainment District and the Texas A&M campus.

The Sanders Corps of Cadet Center depicts the Corps of Cadets from its beginning in 1876 to today. The exhibits held describe the traditions and history of Texas A&M University. The exhibits include Silver Taps, the Aggie Band, Parsons Mounted Cavalry, the 12th Man, the Ross Volunteers, Aggie Muster, Bonfire, Reveille, Cadet life and an Aggie Ring case. Also housed in the Corps Center is the Sanders/Metzger Antique Firearm Collection. A must see to truly understand Aggieland.

Texas A&M University is a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution located in College Station, Texas. The university is centrally located, approximately equidistant from three of the 10 largest cities in the United States: Houston, Dallas and San Antonio and the state capitol Austin. The University's enrollment is approximately 44,000 students studying for degrees in 10 academic colleges. Tours of the campus are offered through the Aggieland Visitor Center, which leave every hour from the lobby of Rudder Tower.

The TAMU Horticulture Gardens consits of over 1,000 specimens in 30 different beds and planting areas. This collection is a valuable tool for teaching, research and extension activities. Habitats currently range from bog and wetlands to desert southwest. These planting areas allow for the study of adaptability of a wide range of plant materials to central Texas growing conditions. The walking path winds through the gardens for approximately one-eighth of a mile, with seating every 100 feet. Educational information is located throughout the garden focusing on gardening tips and techniques for the Brazos Valley.

Located in the Zone of Kyle Field, this museum serves as a repository for treasured sports relics of the past. Visitors will experience several different exhibits in the museum including the Time Wall, Legends Gallery, sport-by-sport perimeter displays and interactive computers. The Texas A&M Sports Museum has the distinction of being the nation's only all-sports museum funded primarily by former athletes.

The Texas Cooperative Wildlife Collection (TCWC) is a natural history collection that focuses on vertebrate life from Texas. It's collection of preserved specimens range from reptiles to mammals, fish to birds and number close to 1 million. No live animals are on display. If interested in a visit, be sure to call TCWC ahead of time. Located adjacent to TCWC is a nature trail that is open year round. It includes 52 plant ID stations, a bird blind, bat boxes and an outdoor classroom.

Tonkaway Ranch is a working cattle ranch and wing shooting preserve. The upland experience at Tonkaway Ranch is second to none. Wing shooting opportunities include: Traditional Upland, Driven Pheasant, South Texas Style, Duck Hunting, Flooded Timber, Wings and Woods, Sporting Clays Course and Tower Shoots. Five degrees of difficulty are available for hunters as well as professionally trained and finished bird dogs.
